Indo-Kazakhstan Joint Army Exercise “PRABAL DOSTYK 2017” will be conducted between the Indian and Kazakhstan Army from 02 to 15 November 2017 in Bakloh (Himachal Pradesh). This is the second joint military exercise between the two countries which have a history of extensive cooperation in the defence arena. The first edition of the joint exercise was held in Kazakhstan 2016.
The participating troops for this exercise who will train with personnel of the Kazakhstan Army have been drawn from 3rd Battalion of the 11th Gorkha Rifles. Approximately 20 troops from both the countries will participate in the exercise. The aim of the exercise is to build and promote bilateral Army to Army relations and exchange skills and experiences between Kazakhstan Army and the Indian Army. The exercise is also aimed at strengthening the ties between the two great nations and will serve as a platform for exchange of drills and procedures leading to seamless interoperability.
The Indian troops participating in the joint exercise have undergone extensive training in Counter Terrorism and Low Intensity Conflict Operations at Counter Insurgency & Jungle Warfare School, Vairengte. In addition the Indian contingent has also trained with elite counter insurgency outfits to imbibe the best practices of counter insurgency and counter terrorist operations with specific reference to both rural and urban settings.
The fourteen days exercise with the Kazakhstan Army will follow a graduated continuum from rudimentary orientation to a full scale mock exercise; the aim being to achieve optimum integration among the two contingents through enhanced mutual comprehension of each other’s tactics, techniques and procedures. The vast experience and expertise of Indian troops in Counter Insurgency operations holds special importance to the Kazakhstan Army. The conduct of the joint exercise will set the stage for greater defence cooperation and consequently will manifest in stronger ties between the two great nations.
