University of Jammu turns club, teachers host liquor parties

It’s almost three week time since highly shocking act of liquor party by a group of varsity teachers on the campus, but the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Prof Ramji Dass Sharma and other higher ups of the varsity have failed to take action against the erring professor.

Be it the sexual harassment of female students and scholars or acts of corruption by the senior officers and professors, the varsity has remained in forefront under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Ramji Dass Sharma. Jammu Youth Forum activists strong protest against Vice Chancellor Prof Ramji Dass Sharma in Jammu University Campus. VC is silent because all the teachers involved are his favourites.
Addressing the gathering here today, Jammu Youth Forum (JYF) President Deepak Kumar said that the highly shocking act of liquor party by a gang of varsity teachers on the campus has not only demeaned the sanctity of the highest institute of learning but exposed the unconditional support of Varsity administration to roguish people. The authorities at Jammu University instead of taking cognizance of ill-behaved act by the teachers took action against lower rung officials to cover up the mistake of senior officers.
Deepak Kumar also said that VC, Prof Ramji Dass Sharma, who is known for prompt action against students and scholars besides lower rung officials on fake pretext of enforcing discipline, is maintaining criminal silence over the highly objectionable act of ‘Liquor Party’ in Varsity Guest House. “The VC rusticates innocent students and scholars and play with their future for raising voice against the corruption in University but here in this case, the teachers indulge in highly objectionable act in the temple of learning, and Prof Ramji Dass has been on silent mode.
According to sources within the University, Deepak Kumar said that in the recently concluded elections of Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA), a liquor party was allegedly thrown in the guest house of the University by the organizers. Among those who attended the party included two teachers guilty of sexual harassment on campus, a teacher of Education who teaches Hindi in DDE, two teachers of English Department, a teacher of Economics, a teacher of Physical Education, two JUTA office bearers and a teacher of Computer Sciences.
“Ahead and during elections, a liquor party was thrown at the guest house of the University, wherein team of Vice Chancellor, contesting elections, remained at the forefront,” said he, adding that the matter was reported to the vice chancellor-RD Sharma, who unwillingly directed manager of the guest house to take cognizance of the matter.

Deepak Kumar further said that the manager of the guest house immediately took action against the lower rung officials, without touching the team of Vice Chancellor, who were instrumental in organizing this event. It was unfortunate that to save the skin of few senior officers for organizing liquor party on the University Campus, the concerned administration made low rung officials scapegoat,” he said and expressed apprehensions that the action of the manager of guest house was allegedly orchestrated by the vice chancellor himself to save the skin of his favourites.
