The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the ongoing winter session of the Legislative Assembly in Srinagar that around 500 errors and mismatches were detected and subsequently rectified in the digitized land records of Qaimoh Tehsil in south Kashmir.
The revelation came in response to an Un-Starred Question raised by MLA Peerzada Feroze Ahmad, who sought clarification from the government on whether errors or mismatches in digitized land records had been reported by stakeholders in the Tehsil, and what corrective steps were being taken.
In a written reply, the government stated, “Under the Land Records Digitization Programme, the digitized Jamabandis were required to be exact replicas of the corresponding physical records. Accordingly, the quality check of the digitized records was carried out after digitization in all the districts, in accordance with the instructions issued by the Commissioner Survey and Land Records, J&K.”
The reply further revealed that during the quality check of digitized Jamabandis in Tehsil Qaimoh, the Tehsildar reported 500 ‘badrats’ (errors), which have since been rectified through the Land Records Information System (LRIS) portal.
However, the government clarified that settlement errors pre-existing in physical records—those identified by landowners themselves—are being addressed separately. “Such errors are being rectified through individual Fard-e-Badr applications under the provisions of Sections 27 and 32 of the Land Revenue Act,” the reply added.
The disclosure underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to improve accuracy and transparency in the Digitisation of Land Records Modernisation Programme (DLRMP), which has been rolled out across Jammu and Kashmir to minimize land disputes, streamline revenue records, and facilitate public access through online portals
