The stage is set for the fifth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, with 695 candidates from across eight states and union territories set to contest for 49 parliamentary constituencies.
According to official data, a total of 1,586 nomination forms were filed for these 49 seats, out of which 749 were found to be valid after scrutiny. The last date for filing nominations for the fifth phase was May 3, 2024.
Among the states and UTs going to polls in this phase, Maharashtra witnessed the maximum number of nomination forms filed, with 512 forms for its 13 parliamentary constituencies. Uttar Pradesh followed closely behind with 466 nominations for its 14 seats.
The 4-Chatra Parliamentary Constituency in Jharkhand received the highest number of nomination forms at 69, while the 35-Lucknow seat in Uttar Pradesh saw 67 nominations filed. On average, each parliamentary constituency in the fifth phase will witness a contest among 14 candidates.
The Election Commission has made extensive preparations to ensure free, fair, and safe elections across the eight states and UTs, which include Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Puducherry.
The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections is scheduled to take place on 20th May, and the results will be announced on 4th June.
The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 are being closely watched as they will determine the next government at the center and shape the country’s political landscape for the next five years.
