In a display of bravery and patriotic spirit, a Village Defence Committee (VDC) member in a forward village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district foiled a cross-border narco-smuggling bid, leading to the recovery of a massive consignment of drugs.
The incident took place in Village Makri, which falls under the jurisdiction of Police Post Bhawani of Nowshera Police Station. According to police statement, on the evening of April 10, a VDC member noticed four suspicious individuals carrying a bag in the forward village and raised an alarm. Other villagers swiftly responded, and after a scuffle, they managed to apprehend the bag containing a heroin-like substance.
The suspects were identified as Naveen Kumar, Sukhvinder, Davinder and Shubam, all residents of Village Makri. Acting promptly, a police team led by the in-charge of Police Post Bhawani, along with the Army, reached the spot and recovered the bag containing a consignment of heroin-like substance weighing around 8.5 kilograms. The contraband was immediately seized.
Subsequently, a formal complaint was filed, and a criminal case (FIR No. 36/2024) under sections 8/21/23 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Nowshera. The police teams, in their pursuit, have succeeded in arresting three of the four identified accused, who are now under investigation. A joint operation by Rajouri Police and the Army is underway to apprehend the fourth fleeing accused. The brave act of the villagers residing near the LoC not only showcases their courage but also their patriotic spirit. Moreover, this incident has led to the busting of a cross-Line of Control narcotics smuggling racket. The police team is currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter, exploring all possible aspects, including forward and backward linkages. This successful operation highlights the unwavering commitment of the security forces and the local populace in combating cross-border criminal activities and maintaining vigilance along the LoC.
