The stage is set for an intense electoral battle in the seventh phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024, with 904 candidates from eight states and union territories vying for the 57 parliamentary constituencies going to polls on June 1, 2024.
According to the latest figures released by the Election Commission of India, a total of 2,105 nomination forms were filed across these eight states and union territories for the seventh phase. After a thorough scrutiny process, 954 nominations were deemed valid.
Punjab witnessed the highest number of nomination forms filed, with 598 candidates throwing their hats into the ring for the 13 parliamentary constituencies up for grabs in the state. Uttar Pradesh followed closely with 495 nominations filed for its 13 constituencies.
Notably, the Jahanabad Parliamentary Constituency in Bihar attracted a staggering 73 nomination forms, marking the highest number of aspirants for a single seat in this phase. The Ludhiana Parliamentary Constituency in Punjab came a close second with 70 nomination forms filed.
On average, each parliamentary constituency in the seventh phase will witness a contest among 16 candidates, setting the stage for a highly competitive electoral battle. The states and union territories going to polls in the seventh phase include Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Telangana, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
As the campaign trail intensifies, all eyes are now on these key states and union territories, where the fate of numerous political parties and their candidates will be decided by the electorate.
