Jammu and Kashmir Police Investigate Illegal Entry
THN Bureau
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended three Rohingya women, including two minors, at the Jammu Railway Station on suspicion of illegally entering India. Additionally, one individual who came to receive them has also been detained, with investigations currently underway.
According to officials, the three Rohingya women were intercepted upon their arrival in Jammu from the Railway Station, accompanied by the person who had come to meet them. Identified as Sadiq Hussain and Safira Begum, with the remaining two being minors, they lacked valid documents for entry into India. Sadiq Hussain possessed a UN identification card and had reportedly resided in Jammu for five years.
The incident has prompted authorities to explore the possibility of human trafficking, with the minors undergoing questioning by relevant officials. The police remain vigilant in their efforts to uncover any illegal activities associated with the case. This development follows a recent crackdown by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Rohingya individuals and their supporters who have obtained Indian National identification cards unlawfully, often with the assistance of locals. In December last year, a total of 18 Rohingyas were arrested across three districts of Jammu, namely Kishtwar, Poonch, and Rajouri.
During these operations, law enforcement officials seized various documents, including Aadhaar cards, bank passbooks, and revenue records, acquired through illicit means by the Rohingyas with the alleged assistance of locals. The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking in the region. Authorities are committed to ensuring the security and integrity of the state’s borders while upholding the rule of law. Further updates on this developing situation will be provided as the investigation progresses.
