In a proactive move to combat the rising threat of cyber crimes, the Jammu Zone Police has established 10 new Cyber Cells, one in each district of the region.

This initiative aims to ensure effective and efficient handling of cyber offenses at the local level, providing citizens with accessible support and redressal mechanisms. Launched in the early months of 2024, the formation of these district Cyber Cells underscores the Jammu Police’s commitment to protecting the public from emerging cyber frauds and online threats. Officials designated to these cells have undergone comprehensive training in two phases, equipping them with the necessary skills to investigate and address cyber crime cases effectively.

Furthermore, the Cyber Police Station Jammu has collaborated with telecom officials, providing them with specialized training to augment the capabilities of the newly established district Cyber Cells. This coordinated effort aims to create a robust network of cyber security professionals capable of combating a wide range of cyber offenses.

The district Cyber Cells are actively engaged in tackling various forms of online financial frauds, including KYC update scams, OLX frauds, fake loan app scams, and investment-related frauds. Additionally, they are addressing social media-related cases, such as defamation, harassment, and the transmission of obscene material.

Since their inception, these Cyber Cells have achieved remarkable success, with a total of Rs. 68,34,619 put on hold or lien marked, and Rs. 21,85,702 refunded to victims of cyber crimes. Their efforts have also contributed to resolving numerous social media-related issues, providing relief to affected individuals.

The Cyber Police Station Jammu, serving as a resource hub for the entire Jammu Zone, is actively supporting the district Cyber Cells through training, refresher courses, and ongoing assistance. Moreover, the station has made significant strides in its own right, putting Rs. 1,28,57,776 on hold and refunding Rs. 49,49,374 to victims over the past six months.

In addition to these operational efforts, the Jammu Police has launched massive awareness campaigns targeting educational institutions, healthcare facilities, retired personnel organizations, armed forces, old age homes, NGOs, and various other platforms. These initiatives aim to educate the public about prevalent cyber threats and provide guidance on preventive measures.

The Cyber Police Station Jammu is also leveraging social media channels to disseminate awareness messages, advisories, and best practices, ensuring that crucial information reaches a broader audience.

Furthermore, the station is actively working to block calling numbers and mobile phone sets used in fraudulent activities, with 439 calling numbers and 411 phone sets already blocked in this regard.

The establishment of the district Cyber Cells and the concerted efforts of the Cyber Police Station Jammu underscore the Jammu Police’s commitment to safeguarding citizens from cyber threats. By providing immediate relief to victims, generating mass awareness, and fostering a sense of responsibility among internet users, this initiative aims to create a safer digital environment for the people of Jammu.
