In response to a question raised by MLA Nazir Ahmed Gurezi regarding the alleged illegal operation of a private stone crusher in Gujran Village of Tulail, the government provided a definitive response in the assembly.
Illegal Operation Confirmed and Closure Ordered
The government confirmed that a private stone crusher, namely M/s Nav Nirman Stone Crusher, was operating illegally with the consent of the Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (J&KPCC). However, the J&KPCC issued a closure order vide No. 85-JKPCC of 2022 dated 10.11.2022 to halt its operations. Further enforcement actions followed:
The Deputy Commissioner, via order No. DCB/legal/2025/2338-43 dated 01.03.2025, directed the Tehsildar of Tulail to implement the closure order. As per the latest report from the Deputy Commissioner of Bandipora, communicated through letter No. DCB/Estt/2025/488-90 dated 08.03.2025, the stone crusher is no longer operational.
Concerns Over Health Hazards Due to Dust
When asked whether the dust from the stone crusher posed a serious risk of spreading dangerous diseases in the area, the government responded: “The said crusher has been closed and is not functioning as of now.” In response to further queries about the measures taken to ensure the permanent closure of the illegal stone crusher, the government reiterated: The said crusher has been closed and is not functioning as of now.”
