In a shocking turn of events, Amit Kapoor, the president of the local Parents Association and a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was apprehended by police today at the city bus stand. Kapoor was caught red-handed with Rs 5 lakhs in cash, leading to his arrest on charges of blackmail and extortion.

The arrest followed a tip-off received by the authorities, prompting swift action. Avinash Gupta, a government employee, came forward with damning allegations against Kapoor, accusing him of coercive tactics and demands for an exorbitant sum of money in exchange for keeping potentially damaging information under wraps.
“Kapoor told me that he had obtained documents that could ruin my career,” Gupta revealed in a statement to reporters. “Despite my insistence that I had done nothing wrong, he threatened to give an interview to the media that would end my career and reputation, regardless of the truth.”
According to Gupta’s account, Kapoor’s demands didn’t stop there. He allegedly sought a staggering Rs 10 lakhs to prevent the release of the purported damaging information. Gupta claims that Kapoor cited the need to raise Rs 6 crore to fund his election campaign from Ramban as the reason for the extortion attempt.
Under immense pressure, Gupta managed to gather Rs 5 lakhs from relatives and handed it over as a first installment to Kapoor. “I recorded the entire transaction and dealings with Kapoor,” Gupta stated. “I then handed the recording over to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). Kapoor continued to press for the remaining Rs 5 lakhs, leading to today’s meeting at the Jammu bus stand where police caught him red-handed.”
The police have confirmed Kapoors arrest and stated that an investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of his alleged activities and any potential accomplices involved in the extortion scheme. A case has been registered under FIR 31/2024, and authorities are determined to bring those responsible to justice swiftly.
