In a major crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested Maqbool Hussain Dar, Naib Tehsildar (Revenue Officer) of Khrew, Pulwama, and Ajaz Ahmad, a Selection Grade Constable, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
The arrests came after the ACB received a complaint alleging that Dar was demanding the bribe from a complainant through Ahmad to settle a dispute over ancestral land in Sathpokhran village, Khrew. Despite repeated visits to the Tehsil Office, Dar had refused to address the matter without the bribe, and the complainant was reportedly harassed with notices.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the ACB registered a case under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and constituted a trap team to investigate the matter. In a well-coordinated operation, the team successfully caught Dar red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹10,000 from the complainant. Ahmad, who was facilitating the bribery offense, was also apprehended.
“We have zero tolerance for corruption, and such cases will be dealt with utmost seriousness,” said an ACB official, confirming the arrests. “The investigation is ongoing, and we will ensure that all those involved in this case are brought to justice.”
The arrests have been praised by anti-corruption watchdogs and citizens alike, who have long advocated for stricter measures against corrupt practices in the government machinery. The ACB has reiterated its commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in public institutions.
