The word drugs a medicine or other substance which has a psychological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body. Despite the UT administration making every effort to ensure that the youths not fell prone to the fatal drugs, on ground situation is really grim reminder to the fact that the Youth wean away from the right path and they fell addicted to the drugs.

Even reports which poured in shows a depressing scenario that youths in Kashmir are so much addicted in drugs that they can’t remained without having a consumption of the drugs. Drugs intake the medical experts opined is really fatal to the one who consume the same. Now the pristine question arisen for sympathetic consideration as to why the Youths take drugs? Whether youths get some money after consuming the drugs? Who supply these drugs to the youths? Whether these drugs easily available in the markets or it has been kept in some particular places from where they get disbursed amongst the Youths?  Who are responsible for spoiling the precious career of the Youths? Whether youths don’t know the repercussions of the consumption of the drugs?

Several families dear ones lost to these drugs meaning there by their Sons were addicted to the drugs and when they came to know till then drugs entered into the whole body. Then for these deceased families it was like don’t cry over the spilled milk.  It’s an irony that even after the opening of de addiction centres in kashmir by the government for the youths who have become addicted to the drugs still the youths are in stupor of drugs. Sometimes we find that  proper counseling being not done to these youths who have become addicted to these drugs as such they remained under the influence of the drugs and they get so much under the drugs that they can’t live without it as such these youths need to be proper counselled by the concerned medical experts before it’s too late. It is out of place to mention here in that there is Stringent legislation by the name NDPS (Narcotic Drugs Phycho Trophic substances). This particular act has been enforced with a sole motoo to acts as a deterrent against those ones who take these drugs and spoiled their own career. Given the unprecedented increase in the consumption of drugs by youths, the Indian Parliament in the year 1985 brings this act which is off course is good legislation we can say. As due to this NDPS act courts booked several accused persons for their involvement in sale, production of drugs. Had this NDPS act not in force in our country then the scenario would be worrisome. In the NDPS there came several drugs like that of charas, heroine, opium, caffeine etc. As per study carried by the experts it came to fore that in Kashmir three out of 100 adults consume drugs. Heroine and opium consumption is of higher level in Kashmir.

Now, need to know what are those factors which are responsible for the consumption of drugs. So, that the civil society too abreast with it and they played the role of saviour of the society in the interest of these youths where in some of these Youths are also the bread earner of their families. Before I penned those factors. There is abrupt need for the civil society to rise to the occasion and save our youths who have fallen into the trap of the drugs. The fight against the drugs can’t be fight lonely rather we all need to be United as there is popular saying that ‘unity in diversity’. If we can’t stand together at this high time then we have to  pay a heavy price later on . So, it’s better that we should irrespective of caste, creed and color opposed the consumption of drugs.

Factors responsible for the consumption of drugs:

Unemployment is also the major reason behind the intake of drugs.

Delay in marriages also caused the loneliness in the youths as such consume drugs.

Failure in the exams also led to the consumption of drugs.

Bad society of the Youths also seen the reason behind consumption of drugs.

Fight and quarrels in the Families led the youths to take drugs.

Some times youths just for fun intake the drugs in some function or the party but later get addicted to the same.

Stress and tension which is very much common these days amongst the Youths and Youths then take drugs which kills them. Parent’s given free hand to their children’s meaning there by they don’t keep any surveillance on them as what Society have their out side where they used to go. Parents love to their children’s sometimes seen their children fallen in the bad society and till the parents regained their conscious about the evils of the drugs consumption

As it has been said that the drugs is slow poison and which has already eaten the vitals of the society as such the concerned law enforcement agencies need to step up its vigil against these drugs mafia who are desperate to spoiled the future of youths of Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention here in that even the UT Police JK have launched a Nasha mukt abiyan (Drugs free society ) across the UT so that the youths who are addicted to the drugs coupled with become threat to the society police booked them under the relevant provisions of the law. If the Nasha Mukt abiyan police is laid emphasizing time and again adding, organized different programme in this regard also. But still the drugs consumption on rise in Kashmir which left one guessing as to why this menace is taking heavy toll on the lives of the Youths.

Future of any country lies in the Youths as such we needs to ponder upon as to why the Youths tread such path which spoiled them.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar dealt sternly against the remnants of terrorism since he taken over the Police Chief.

ADGP Vijay Kumar requested now given the upsurge in the consumption of drugs by the Kashmiri youths , he should ensure that the drugs mafia be booked and punished so that the Youths of Kashmir will be save from the drugs.

Hope, ADGP Will intervene and take note of this upward trend of drugs. This will heave of sigh of relief for several families of the Kashmir. “While there are emotional, psychological, and physical reasons why people may choose to abuse drugs in the first place, there are several triggers that fall within these reasons said Dr Suhail Naik senior consultant pediatrics and former president Doctors Association Kashmir. The adolescents have lot of peer pressure and a general feelings of inadequacy towards themselves or the world, so they use drugs to boost their confidence and self-esteem. The increased frequency is due to  failure to meet desired expectations, unemployment ,a loss of  job, a death, a divorce, or financial losses”, he added. Many people use drugs to boost their endurance, improve their focus, or enhance their appearance in some capacity. Finally, drug use is also the result of psychological factors such as mental illness, mental trauma, or even just general attitude and beliefs. Furthermore end of a relationship, some mental illness, self-medication, financial burdens, career pressures, school pressures, family demands, curiosity and experimentation are other reasons to start drug abuse, Dr Naik added. Whatsoever pressures and stressors  are there , which can drive youth to abuse drugs, it is the  wide availability of these drugs which make drug addiction to epidemic levels in Kashmir.
