Continuing its relentless drive against the drug menace in the region under Operation Sanjeevani, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested five drug addicts including a girl along with a peddler from the Sikenderpur Kothy area of Bishnah on Tuesday.
A small quantity of heroin was also recovered from their possession. Acting on specific inputs, the Bishnah Police had set up a specialized naka (checkpoint) in the Sikenderpur Kothy area on May 8. During checking of vehicles, the police party intercepted a suspicious car bearing registration number JK12B-2837.
After a brief chase, the police apprehended the driver Sunny Gupta, a resident of Bhagwati Nagar, and four other occupants identified as Khanmukh Singh alias Kaku Singh from Paloura, Amit Rajput alias Bunty from Talab Tillo, Ashutosh Sharma alias Shanky from Shiv Nagar, Deepu Kumar alias Doula from Surinsar and Manisha Kotwal of Bhagwati Nagar near SOS School Jammu. Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered around 2.5 grams of heroin-like substance from the possession of the accused Sunny Gupta.
A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Bishnah Police Station and further legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested individuals. This latest action reinforces the Jammu Police’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace plaguing the society through its targeted Operation Sanjeevani. Efforts are underway to break the supply chain and detoxify the youth from this social evil.
