The Army Hospital (Research & Referral) today commemorated International Nurses Day with a series of events to honor the invaluable contributions of nurses towards society.
The occasion, celebrated annually on Florence Nightingale’s birth anniversary, was marked by a special program at the Ayurvigyan Auditorium.
Maj Gen Kanwarjit Singh, the Officiating Commandant of the Army Hospital (R&R), graced the event as the Chief Guest, while Maj Gen Sheena P D, the Principal Matron, welcomed the gathering. The International Council of Nurses had declared the theme for this year as “Our Nurses Our Future, The Economic Power of Care,” which was unveiled by Maj Gen I D Flora, Additional Director General Military Nursing Service (DGMNS).
To commemorate the occasion, a debate on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Nursing: Boon or a Bane’ and a panel discussion on the theme were conducted. Eminent panelists delved into various aspects of the nursing profession, including challenges, approaches to empower nurses, their leadership role, nursing education, digitalization in healthcare, and nurse burnout. The Chief Guest felicitated the panelists and awarded meritorious Nursing Officers with Appreciation certificates. Capt Deepa Shajan received the prestigious Pushpnaranjan Award for her outstanding contributions.
In his address, Maj Gen Kanwarjit Singh motivated the nursing officers to uphold the professional standards and ethos set by the Military Nursing Service. He commended the tireless efforts of the nurses, who work endless shifts, taking care of patients with utmost compassion and empathy. The event highlighted the pivotal role played by nurses in the healthcare system and recognized their dedication to providing quality care and support to patients, often under challenging circumstances. It served as a platform to celebrate the nursing profession and inspire future generations to carry forward the noble legacy.
