In a shocking exposure, an Army jawan has been arrested by Bari Brahmana Police in Samba district for allegedly molesting a tribal student of the Central University of Jammu.
The accused, a native of Kerala and currently posted with a Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Battalion in Rajouri district, was tracked down and arrested after decisive technical leads nailed his movements.
The incident, which has shaken the university community, occurred on September 23 in the Cheer Khad area of Bari Brahmana. Police sources revealed that the accused intercepted the young woman, a B.Sc. second-year student, while she was returning home from her institution. He allegedly dragged her towards a secluded spot and tried to sexually assault her. The student resisted fiercely and raised an alarm, forcing the jawan to flee, but not before threatening her.
The distraught survivor narrated the ordeal to her parents, who immediately approached the police. Acting on her complaint, FIR No. 145/2025 was registered at Police Station Bari Brahmana the same evening. The case was handed to Sub Inspector Ibrar Ul Haq, who launched a swift investigation.
CCTV Footage Cracks the Case
Investigators combed the area for evidence and found clinching proof: CCTV footage from a nearby petrol pump, where the accused had refuelled his scooty minutes before the crime. Cross-checking the footage with the survivor’s identification, police zeroed in on the accused. A well-coordinated operation led to his arrest from the same locality on Tuesday.
Army Jawan in the Dock
The arrest of a serving jawan of the Indian Army in such a heinous crime has raised serious questions of accountability and discipline within the armed forces. Citizens expressed outrage, pointing out that those sworn to protect the nation must be held to an even higher standard of conduct. Senior police officials confirmed the arrest and assured that the investigation will be carried out with “zero tolerance”.
The accused remains in custody, and further questioning is underway to determine whether he has been involved in similar offences. The case has triggered outrage in Jammu, with student groups and civil society demanding strict action and fast-tracking of the trial. “If those wearing the uniform misuse their power against citizens, where should ordinary people look for safety?” a local activist told Hidden News.
