The senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader, known for his close association with party chief Hemant Soren, departed for the national capital via an early morning flight.
When questioned about the purpose of his visit, Champai Soren maintained that it was for personal reasons. However, reports suggest a more complex political narrative unfolding behind the scenes. According to the news channel, Champai Soren spent the previous night at a Kolkata hotel, where he allegedly met with BJP leader Suvendhu Adhikari.
The timing of this meeting has raised eyebrows, particularly in light of recent political developments in Jharkhand. Champai Soren, who reportedly relinquished the chief ministerial position reluctantly after Hemant Soren’s release from jail in July, is said to be exploring his political options. Unconfirmed reports indicate that he may be seeking an audience with top BJP leadership during his Delhi visit. Adding to the intrigue, six MLAs and Champai Soren’s personal staff are reportedly accompanying him on this trip, further intensifying speculation about a potential political realignment. Sources suggest that Champai Soren has been in communication with senior BJP figure and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, though official confirmation of these claims is lacking. Political observers note that Champai Soren’s alleged discontent stems from his abrupt removal as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister. He had assumed the role following Hemant Soren’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a land grab case but stepped down on July 3 after Hemant Soren was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court.
When approached for comment by the media, Champai Soren remained non-committal about the swirling rumors. “I don’t know what rumors are being spread. I don’t know what news is being run, so I cannot tell whether it’s true or not. I don’t know anything about it…Hum jahan par hain vahi par hain (I am here only),” he stated.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Deepak Prakash appeared to capitalize on the situation, making veiled remarks that seemed to criticize Hemant Soren’s leadership. “He (Champai Soren) is a huge personality… 3.5 crore people of Jharkhand were happy with his work… But the way he was removed from the CM post, was unfortunate. It was a setback that a good person was removed from the CM’s chair. What was his fault?” Prakash commented to ANI. As political tensions simmer in Jharkhand, all eyes remain on Champai Soren’s movements in Delhi, with many wondering if this visit could herald a significant shift in the state’s political alignments.
