In a significant leap forward for healthcare in the region, the Bone and Joint Hospital Jammu successfully conducted its first regular elective operation theatre session, showcasing its capability to perform complex orthopaedic surgeries.
This milestone event, held under the guidance of Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, marks the beginning of a new chapter in the hospital’s history.
The inaugural session, led by a skilled team from the Orthopaedic department under Dr. Tahir Afzal (HOU), in collaboration with the Anaesthesia team headed by Dr. Ajay Gupta, saw the successful completion of five major operations. This achievement underscores the hospital’s commitment to providing advanced medical care to the local community.
A highlight of the session was a Total Hip Replacement surgery performed on a 34-year-old male patient suffering from Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the hip joint. This procedure promises to significantly improve the young patient’s mobility and quality of life. The surgical team also successfully carried out other complex procedures, including:
– A complex shoulder surgery
– An Acromio-Clavicular joint repair using the tight rope technique for a 40-year-old male
– Tibial osteosynthesis with interlocking intramedullary nail
– Fixation of a calcaneum fracture for a 45-year-old male
These diverse and complex surgeries demonstrate the hospital’s capability to address a wide range of orthopaedic conditions using cutting-edge techniques. The success of this inaugural session is a testament to the exceptional skills of the medical teams and the state-of-the-art facilities now available at the Bone and Joint Hospital Jammu.
Notably, all these surgeries are being offered free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme of the Government of India, making advanced orthopaedic care accessible to a broader segment of the population. The hospital administration has confirmed that these surgeries will now be performed routinely at the New Bone and Joint Hospital, signaling a significant enhancement in the region’s healthcare capabilities.
This development is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel to distant cities for complex orthopaedic treatments, providing timely and high-quality care closer to home. As the Bone and Joint Hospital Jammu enters this new phase, it stands poised to play a crucial role in elevating the standard of orthopaedic care in the region, benefiting countless patients in the years to come.
