Anger expressed by a Councillor recently held general house meeting, forced the authorities of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to withdraw the ‘backdoor’ re-engagement of four retired persons from the government services, who were reengaged last year.

Municipal Councillor, Gourav Chopra, according to sources dared the JMC’s authorities over arbitrary re-engagement of retired persons from government services. “Some lower rung officials of the corporation are misleading the higher authorities, are running a backdoor of engagement/ re-engagement, to the keep the doors open for themselves after their retirement in future”, the sources said.

“The graph of unemployment in our country is touching new hights all most every day. We are facing the challenge arises to un-ending unemployment. Frustrate youth getting trapped in drugs abuses and crimes. It is alarming situation. How can the authorities or the government turn deaf ear toward this challenge”, said Gourav Chopra, JMC Municipal Councillor Ward 28. He further said that he would not accept and allow nepotism at the cost of un-employed youths.

“It should be our duty to safeguard the interests of our jobless/ unemployed youth. But unfortunately, some blacksheeps in Corporation for their vested interests, are snatching away the little bit opportunity we have in Corporation for the youths”, Chopra said. Meanwhile sources in JMC told The Hidden News that four retired persons discontinued by the Corporation a week ago, were engaged last the Joint Commissioner (A), Pankaj Gupta.

“The services of Sh Lalit Wali, Ward Officer (Retd) from Srinagar Municipal Corporation shall be utilised through NGO M/s J&K Public Welfare and Development Society initially for a period of six months under category Administrative/Ministerial/Account Staff as per SRO-460 of 2017 with immediate effect in the Central Establishment Section as per terms and conditions already in vogue with the empanelled NGO of JMC”, order number JMC/Estt/5468-61, dated 14/08/2021 read. On similar pattern in the month of July 2021 the JMC re-engaged Ramesh Dhar, a retired Senior Assistant, in same capacity, and total four retired persons were re-engaged.

Sources said that such type of orders remain within a circle of few people, but when it came to the notice of the Councillor, who raised his voice against this unjust backdoor of re-engagement of retired persons. The Commendable job of Councillor Gourav Chopra yielded good results and finally the JMC authorities discontinued the services of the retired persons.

“In pursuance of decision taken in the latest Finance and Planning Committee meeting held on 26/04/2022 and directions given in the General House meeting 17/05/2022 regarding disengagement of retired persons engaged through NGOs. it is hereby ordered that Lalit Wali, Ramesh Kumar Dhar, Dev Raj and Mulkh Raj, who are working on outsourcing basis through empaneled NOGs shall be disengaged with immediate effect”, order number JMC/Estt/1468-73, dated 21/05/2022 read.

the order further read that in addition to above, any other retired person engaged in any section of JMC shall be deemed as disengaged. “There shall be complete ban on engagement of retired person in future”, the order added.
