In a major success against cybercriminals, the Cyber Cell of the District Police Jammu has solved four separate online financial fraud cases, recovering a total of Rs 1,20,200 out of Rs 1,60,700 defrauded from the victims.
The first case involved a complainant who was deceived into downloading a fake ‘YONO APP’ by an unknown caller, resulting in a loss of Rs 23,700. In another incident, a fraudster hacked into the complainant’s phone and illegally withdrew Rs 61,000 via Google Pay. The third case pertained to an investment scam, where the complainant lost Rs 56,000 after investing in a fraudulent ‘Alphain’ app. The fourth complainant fell victim to a con artist posing as an army officer, who duped them of Rs 20,000 through a fake text message. Prompt action and extensive efforts by the Cyber Cell DPO Jammu led to the successful recovery of a substantial portion of the defrauded amount.
SSP Jammu, Dr. Vinod Kumar, reiterated his appeal to the general public to remain vigilant and promptly report such incidents to the National Helpline number 1930 or the Cyber Cell DPO Jammu helpline number 8899537995. Additionally, citizens are encouraged to lodge cyber complaints online at www.cybercrime.gov.in and report lost/stolen mobiles at www.ceir.gov.in.
