The incident unfolded when Mr. Vijay Kumar received a seemingly innocuous SMS regarding the purported upgrade of his Jio SIM. Tempted by the offer, he clicked on a link provided in the message, only to fall victim to a cyber scam, resulting in a loss of Rs. 94,192.
Undeterred by the complexity of the case, the Cyber Cell of the District Police in Jammu launched a thorough investigation. Their relentless efforts ultimately bore fruit, leading to the successful recovery of the entire amount lost by the victim.
In a statement, Dr. Vinod Kumar, SSP Jammu, reiterated his appeal to the general public to remain extra vigilant and to report promptly any suspicious activities to the National Helpline number 1930 or the Cyber Cell DPO Jammu. He also encouraged citizens to utilize online platforms such as www.cybercrime.gov.in and www.ceir.gov.in for reporting lost or stolen mobile phones.
