The Department of Animal Husbandry, Doda, has issued a comprehensive clarification regarding the recent controversy surrounding the sale of R2B vaccine at the Government Poultry Farm cum Hatchery on February 3, 2024.
Following a detailed investigation conducted by a committee formed under the supervision of Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr. Mayan Ud Din Gures, the department has refuted the allegations raised by certain sections of the media, deeming them baseless.
The committee’s findings, presented in a thorough report, have confirmed that poultry birds were indeed sold to the public on the specified date, with the inclusion of the R2B vaccine. The confusion arose when media personnel, unexpectedly present during the sale, demanded documentation such as challans, which caused confusion among the staff. Initially unaware of the media’s presence, the staff mistook them for regular beneficiaries, leading to a misunderstanding.
Regarding the pricing of the R2B vaccine, the department clarified that each farmer was provided two vials of the vaccine for a total of Rs. 20 upon request, as the actual price of one vial is Rs. 10. The media’s misinterpretation of this pricing led to allegations of overcharging, which were promptly refuted by the staff. “The misunderstanding stemmed from the media’s misinterpretation of the pricing structure, mistaking the cost of one vial for Rs. 20,” stated a departmental spokesperson.
Upon careful examination, the committee found no evidence of misconduct on the part of the poultry staff. Once they became aware of the presence of media personnel, they extended courteous treatment accordingly.
In its statement, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Doda, reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in all its operations. The clarification aims to dispel any misconceptions and restore trust among the public regarding the department’s integrity and dedication to serving the community.
As the controversy settles with the release of the department’s clarification, stakeholders and the public are encouraged to continue supporting the efforts of the Department of Animal Husbandry in promoting animal welfare and ensuring the availability of essential vaccines for the region’s livestock.
