In a stern warning to those resorting to killings in Jammu and Kashmir, the Director-General of Police (DGP), R.R. Swain, has categorically stated that such individuals will not be spared under any circumstances.

Swain made these remarks while addressing media persons in Kathua district, accompanied by senior police officers.

“If you ask me what the challenge is, then as I have said before and reiterate today, the challenge is coming from across the border,” DGP Swain revealed. He added that their business has been severely affected in Kashmir to the core, and they have not digested this setback. In the same breath, he questioned, “How can they abandon their nefarious designs? Contractors are sitting across the borders, and they are leaving no stone unturned to carry on their business.”

Elaborating further, the DGP said that while their numbers are minimal, akin to rats, they target innocent persons, which is a grave concern for everyone. “As you are well aware, information flows, and we have the CRPF, SPOs, Army, and others. They can’t withstand against them like they could eight to ten years back,” he said.

Swain appealed to the general public, urging them to provide information, stating, “You have seen whenever any information came, the DIG and SSP used to verify the same and respond to it. We already have instructions from the Union Government to strengthen the police force. Night vision vehicles coupled with training would also be provided to them. We would kill them,” he vehemently lamented. When asked about the potential threat posed by micro-satellites and the changing modus operandi of adversaries, the DGP acknowledged, “War has been set on us, and as such, we need to adopt strategies to counter it.”

The DGP’s strong stance against perpetrators of killings and his acknowledgment of the cross-border challenge have shed light on the complex security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. His emphasis on strengthening the police force and adopting effective strategies underscores the commitment of the authorities to maintain law and order in the region. Swain’s appeal to the general public to provide information highlights the importance of community cooperation in combating the menace of violence. The DGP’s assurance of stern action against those resorting to killings sends a clear message that such acts will not be tolerated and will be met with resolute action. The remarks made by the DGP come amidst heightened security concerns in the region, particularly in the wake of recent incidents of targeted killings. His statement assumes significance as it affirms the determination of the security forces to tackle the challenges head-on and maintain peace and stability in the region. While acknowledging the cross-border challenges, the DGP’s remarks also indicate the preparedness of the security forces to counter any nefarious designs or attempts to disrupt the prevailing peace. The mention of acquiring night vision vehicles and providing training to the police force underscores the efforts being made to enhance the operational capabilities of the security personnel.

As the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir continues to be a matter of concern, the DGP’s strong stance and assurances of decisive action are likely to instill confidence among the population. However, the success of these efforts will depend on the effective implementation of strategies and close coordination between various stakeholders, including the security forces and the civilian population.
