A fierce digital war has erupted in Jammu and Kashmir’s political arena, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah taking on both the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in a series of explosive social media exchanges.
The online battle began after LoP Sunil Sharma alleged that following the 2024 Assembly elections, Omar Abdullah had approached New Delhi seeking an alliance with the BJP for government formation and demanded restoration of statehood. Responding sharply, Omar hit back on X, declaring,
“I swear on the Holy Quran that I didn’t seek an alliance with the BJP in 2024 for Statehood or for any other reason. Unlike Sunil Sharma, I don’t tell lies for a living.”
The Chief Minister’s fiery rebuttal sent shockwaves through political circles, drawing widespread attention and reigniting old rivalries.
Not one to stay silent, Sunil Sharma retaliated with a counter-challenge on his official X handle, daring Omar to reaffirm his statement publicly,
“Swear on Quran you didn’t seek BJP alliance for statehood in 2024,” Sharma posted, tagging Omar Abdullah directly.
While the digital slugfest between the CM and the LoP dominated timelines, Omar Abdullah also trained his guns on the PDP, accusing the party of deceiving the public during the 2014 polls. In a post on his Facebook handle @Omarspeaks, Omar wrote,
“Had the PDP stayed true to their promise of keeping the BJP out of power, history would’ve been different. They sought votes against the BJP, yet the moment elections ended, they joined hands with them. And to this day, they haven’t once apologised to the people for that betrayal.”
Political observers say the twin confrontations signal a renewed phase of digital warfare in J&K politics — where leaders increasingly use social media platforms to settle scores and shape public narratives.
As the exchanges continue to trend across platforms, the virtual battlefield between the National Conference, BJP, and PDP has once again exposed deep political fissures ahead of the crucial winter session of the J&K Assembly.
