The district courts in the summer zone of Jammu province, excluding those in district Kishtwar, Doda, and specific courts in Ramban and Kathua, will observe a 15-day summer vacation from June 10 to June 24, 2024.
This decision has been announced through an order issued by the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, providing clear instructions to the concerned authorities to ensure the smooth functioning of the judicial system during this period.
According to the order, the principal district and sessions judges, along with Chief Judicial Magistrates of the respective districts, have been entrusted with the responsibility of arranging for the disposal of urgent criminal cases within their jurisdictions during the vacation period. The decision to grant a summer vacation to the district courts in the summer zone of Jammu province is a long-standing tradition aimed at providing a well-deserved break to the judicial officers and staff, who tirelessly work throughout the year to uphold the principles of justice and ensure the efficient administration of the legal system.
However, it is noteworthy that the courts in the districts of Kishtwar, Doda, and specific courts in Ramban and Kathua will remain operational during this period, ensuring that the wheels of justice continue to turn without interruption in these regions.
The High Court’s order underscores the importance of maintaining a balance between the need for periodic respite and the uninterrupted delivery of justice. By entrusting the principal district and sessions judges, along with Chief Judicial Magistrates, with the responsibility of handling urgent criminal cases, the judicial system aims to ensure that no case is unduly delayed or compromised during the vacation period. As the summer vacation commences, the legal fraternity in the designated districts of Jammu province will have an opportunity to rejuvenate and return refreshed, ready to continue their pursuit of upholding the rule of law and serving the interests of justice.
