The Election Commission of India (ECI) today formally submitted the list of newly elected members to the 18th Lok Sabha to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
At 4:30 PM, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, called on the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this pivotal meeting, they presented a copy of the notification issued by the ECI in accordance with Section 73 of the Representation of People Act, 1951. The notification contained the names of all the elected members who will represent the citizens in the Lower House of Parliament.
This formal submission marks a significant step in the transition process, paving the way for the formation of the new government and the commencement of the 18th Lok Sabha’s term. After completing this crucial constitutional responsibility, the Chief Election Commissioner, the two Election Commissioners, and senior officers of the Commission paid a visit to Rajghat, the sacred memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Their visit to this revered site was a symbolic gesture, seeking blessings and guidance from the iconic leader after the successful conduct of the General Elections 2024.
The ECI’s actions underscore the principles of transparency, accountability, and adherence to the democratic process that govern the country’s electoral system. With the list of elected representatives now officially handed over, the stage is set for the next phase of the democratic transition, ensuring the seamless functioning of the nation’s governance structure. As the nation eagerly awaits the swearing-in of the new government, the Election Commission’s meticulous efforts in conducting free, fair, and credible elections have once again reinforced India’s commitment to upholding the tenets of its vibrant democracy.
