In a landmark breakthrough, the Jammu Police have unearthed a fake court order scam, arresting Advocate Basharat Ahmed Khan, identified as the kingpin of the forgery.
According to Police spokesperson, “The arrest follows the registration of FIR No. 142/2024 under sections 318(4)/338/336(3)/340(2) of the BNS at Police Station Janipur, Jammu.”
“The case came to light on December 19, 2024, when a complaint was filed by the 3rd Additional Munsiff, JMIC Jammu through the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jammu. The complaint alleged that a fabricated court release order, forged using counterfeit stamps and the Judge’s signatures, along with a fraudulent G.R. receipt for Rs. 50,000, was employed to illegally release a seized vehicle (Tipper bearing registration number JK02CT-6827) involved in a mining case”, the spokesperson said.
Given the gravity of the situation, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, promptly constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. “The SIT has worked tirelessly, collecting critical evidence, including the forged release order and the fake G.R. receipt, to unravel the scam,” the spokesperson added.
Following a meticulous investigation, Advocate Basharat Ahmed Khan, son of Mohd Bashir and a resident of Asrarabad Sidhra, Jammu, was arrested. The accused, described as the central figure in orchestrating the forgery, is currently in custody at Police Station Nagrota.
In a search operation conducted at the accused’s residence under the supervision of an Executive Magistrate, police recovered the mobile phone allegedly used to prepare the fake documents. Additionally, a computer, printer, and the fraudulent G.R. receipt were seized, providing substantial evidence against the accused. The police spokesperson confirmed that further recoveries and arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
“The arrest of the advocate as the mastermind highlights our commitment to addressing fraudulent activities and ensuring accountability,” the spokesperson added. The arrest has sent shockwaves across legal and administrative circles, reinforcing the need for stringent oversight in handling sensitive court processes. The police are urging citizens to report any suspected fraudulent activities to ensure justice and transparency.
