A tense shootout occurred between the police and gangster at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Kathua on Wednesday evening, resulting in the death of a gangster and a police sub-inspector, officials said.
Director General JKP R.R. Swain, ADGP Jammu Zone Anand Jain among other senior officer of JKP and civil administration paid tribute to the bravery of PSI Deepak Sharma, who lost his life in the line of duty.
According to official sources, the firing incident took place around 10:35 pm when police personnel engaged in an exchange of gunfire with the gangsters inside the hospital premises. “In the shootout, Police Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma sustained critical head injuries, and one unidentified gangster was killed,” a senior police official stated.
Special Police Officer (SPO) Anil Kumar also suffered injuries during the crossfire. The injured Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma was immediately shifted to Amandeep Hospital in Pathankot, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. “We are investigating the circumstances that led to this violent confrontation within the hospital premises,” the official added.
Further details about the identities of the gangsters and the motive behind the incident are awaited as the investigation is still in its early stages. The district administration has urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities during this time.
