Jammu Police have solved the gruesome murder case of Rakesh Kumar from Bhalesar, R S Pura, with the arrest of six accused involved in the brutal killing. This was announced by SSP Jammu Dr. Vinod Kumar during a press conference on 04/03/2024.
According to Dr. Kumar, on March 23rd, 2024, a case was registered at R.S Pura Police Station after Rakesh Kumar was brutally attacked with sharp weapons by Ravinder Singh and his associates due to an old rivalry. Rakesh Kumar sustained grievous injuries and succumbed to them at GMC Jammu. The accused had severed Kumar’s hands and disposed of them in a ditch near the India-Pakistan border. Police are coordinating with the Indian Army to dewater the ditch and recover the victim’s hands.
After a manhunt and raids across Jammu and adjoining districts, police arrested five accused from Punjab- Bunty Verma, Lakhvinder Singh, Ravinder Singh, Mohinder Singh, and Pawandeep Singh. The sixth accused, Sanjeev Sharma, was arrested from Jammu’s Gangyal area.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that the murder was an act of vengeance stemming from an old rivalry and case from 2016 where Rakesh Kumar was acquitted in murder case of Ravinder and Mohinder’s father Bikram Singh.
All the weapons used in the crime have been recovered by police from Samba district based on the accused’s disclosures. The accused are currently under police custody as the investigation continues to establish the role of potential accomplices. SSP Dr. Vinod Kumar lauded the efforts of the police team led by SHO R.S. Pura Inspector Naveen Angral in cracking this sensitive case.
