The Union Ministry of Home Affairs unveiled three videos showcasing the Modi government’s achievements in addressing the challenge of drug abuse in the nation. Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share these videos, highlighting the government’s concerted efforts in tackling the menace of drugs.
In one of his posts, Shah emphasized, “The Modi government’s ruthless approach towards narco-trade has borne effective results. The upshot of this approach is the drastic rise in the number of arrests and seizures.” He underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to combatting the drug trade and ensuring a safer society.
Furthermore, Shah reiterated, “An invincible anti-narcotics apparatus has been built nationwide through Coordination, Cooperation, and Collaboration among governments and agencies under the guidance of Modi Ji. The strategy has resulted in an increased number of drug seizures and cases registered.” This statement reflects the comprehensive strategy adopted by the government to curb drug trafficking through enhanced coordination and cooperation among law enforcement agencies.
Highlighting the significance of creating a #DrugsFreeBharat, Shah emphasized, “A #DrugsFreeBharat is the greatest gift to our future generations. Our nation is speeding to achieve this goal through the detection of drugs, destruction of drug networks, and detention of culprits while rehabilitating addicts under the leadership of PM Modi Ji.” This vision underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of future generations by eradicating the scourge of drug abuse.
The data released by the Ministry revealed a significant increase in the quantity of narcotics seized and the number of cases registered against drug traffickers. During the period from 2014 to 2023, the cases registered against drug-related offenses increased to 3,755, marking a threefold rise compared to the preceding years. Similarly, the arrests surged fourfold to 5,745, demonstrating the government’s proactive approach in apprehending perpetrators. Moreover, under the Modi government’s tenure, the quantity of seized drugs doubled to 3.95 lakh kgs, with a corresponding increase in the value of seized drugs to Rs. 22,000 crores. Additionally, anti-narcotics agencies successfully destroyed 12 lakh kgs of drugs worth Rs. 12,000 crores, further crippling the illicit drug trade networks.
To bolster Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a drug-free India, the government reinforced the four-tier NCORD mechanism in 2019. This initiative aimed to enhance cohesion and synergy between Central and State drug law enforcement agencies, facilitating more effective action against drug trafficking and abuse. The concerted efforts made by the Modi government underscore its commitment to curbing the illegal drug trade and safeguarding the nation’s youth from the perils of substance abuse, in line with its overarching goal of building a safer and healthier society.
