In a major boost to India’s fight against terrorism and organized crime, Union Home Minister Amit Shah today virtually inaugurated a unique digital Criminal Case Management System (CCMS) designed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Developed as a user-friendly, browser-based software, the CCMS will enable NIA personnel to better coordinate on terror and organized crime cases, thereby improving justice delivery. It will also be made available as a standalone version to help state police forces in investigations and prosecution.
During the virtual event, Mr. Shah also e-inaugurated two new NIA branch offices in Jammu and Kochi, along with a residential complex in Raipur. This expansion will strengthen the agency’s reach and provide a secure environment for its officers tackling terrorism and left-wing extremism across states.
Underlining the importance of technology, the Home Minister asked state police chiefs to utilize the new-age CCMS software for effective and expeditious probes. “It will help organize, integrate and digitize data like case documents, evidence and charge sheets,” he said. Mr. Shah pointed out that the system will boost supervision through clear assessment frameworks for senior officers and prosecutors. It will also assist in implementing newly legislated criminal laws like the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakhshya Sanhita.
The launch comes amid rising threats from terror outfits exploiting cyber space, dark web, drones, crowdfunding and encrypted communications. Mr. Shah stated the CCMS will foster stronger cooperation between central and state anti-terror agencies to counter such challenges.
Additionally, the Home Minister inaugurated the ‘Sankalan’ mobile app-a compendium of new criminal laws developed by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Available offline, the app aims to serve as a comprehensive guide for all stakeholders across the country.
