In a major crackdown against the drug menace, the Jammu Police have arrested an Imam from the Ramban district for possessing narcotics.
The suspect, identified as Mohd Ayoub, son of Gulab Din, a resident of Kawa, Kanga in Ramban, was apprehended on Friday afternoon from the Nawabad area of Jammu city.
According to the police report, a team from Nowabad Police Station led by PSI Jeevan Kumar had set up a checkpoint near Mandir-Masjid Point on the Tawi bridge for vehicle checking. During the operation, a motorcycle bearing registration number JK19A-2827 attempted to flee after being signaled to stop. The police party swiftly intercepted the rider.
Upon searching the suspect, the officers recovered approximately 14 grams of a heroin-like psychotropic substance from his possession. Ayoub, who serves as an Imam at a mosque in his native village, was promptly taken into custody. An FIR (No. 52/2024) has been registered against the accused under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Nowabad Police Station, and an investigation has been initiated.
The Jammu Police have garnered praise from the public for their firm stance against drug peddlers. They have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any information related to drug trafficking while assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
