In a major crackdown against the drug menace, the Jammu Police have arrested an Imam from the Ramban district for possessing narcotics.
The suspect, identified as Mohd Ayoub, son of Gulab Din, a resident of Kawa, Kanga in Ramban, was apprehended on Friday afternoon from the Nawabad area of Jammu city.
According to the police report, a team from Nowabad Police Station led by PSI Jeevan Kumar had set up a checkpoint near Mandir-Masjid Point on the Tawi bridge for vehicle checking. During the operation, a motorcycle bearing registration number JK19A-2827 attempted to flee after being signaled to stop. The police party swiftly intercepted the rider.
Upon searching the suspect, the officers recovered approximately 14 grams of a heroin-like psychotropic substance from his possession. Ayoub, who serves as an Imam at a mosque in his native village, was promptly taken into custody. An FIR (No. 52/2024) has been registered against the accused under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Nowabad Police Station, and an investigation has been initiated.
The Jammu Police have garnered praise from the public for their firm stance against drug peddlers.
