According to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) report ‘Climate Change 2021’, India is likely to face drastic impact of climate change in the coming years like Glacial retreat in the Hindu Kush Himalayas, increasing sea levels, intense tropical cyclones leading to flooding, intense heat stress and erratic monsoon.
According to the report, most of these impacts are irreversible and cannot be remediated even if the greenhouse gas emissions decline dramatically. In the coming years India will face heatwaves and humid heat stress more intensively and frequently.
