In a significant breakthrough, Jammu & Kashmir Police in the Jammu district have arrested an interstate drug peddler from Punjab, seizing half a kilogram of heroin (Chitta) worth several lakhs. The arrest took place in the Miran Sahib area, marking a major success in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the region.
The operation was carried out by a team from the Miran Sahib Police Station, led by the Station House Officer (SHO). The police were on naka duty at Kotli Mian Fateh when they intercepted a suspicious individual. The suspect was identified as Lal Hussain, son of Billu, a resident of Jalandhar, Punjab. A thorough search led to the discovery of half a kilogram of heroin in his possession.
Following the arrest, an FIR No. 60/2024 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act was registered at the Miran Sahib Police Station, and the accused was taken into custody. The police are currently conducting a detailed investigation to uncover both the forward and backward linkages of this drug network.
The Jammu Police are committed to dismantling the drug supply chains in the region. Intensive questioning of the accused is underway to trace the origin and full extent of the drug distribution network. This effort is part of a broader strategy to combat drug trafficking and reduce the availability of narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir. The police force is also focusing on raising awareness among the public, particularly the youth, about the dangers of drug abuse. By conducting such operations and engaging in community outreach, Jammu Police aim to eradicate the drug menace and promote a drug-free society.
