In a major blow to the narcotics trade, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown on drug peddlers, freezing and confiscating properties worth over Rs 2.5 crore in Jammu district. The action, carried out under the ambit of Operation SANJEEVANI, targeted notorious drug kingpins operating in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Police Stations Bishnah and Bahu Fort.

One of the prime targets was Chirag Attri, alias Chetan, a habitual offender and son of late Ved Raj Attri, residing in Chak Jaralan, Tehsil Bishnah. Attri, who has multiple cases registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, was recently detained under the stringent PIT NDPS Act.

The police seized Attri’s properties, which included land under Khasra No. 345 in village Chak Jaralan, Bishnah, a commercial pacca hall measuring 50’X27’ feet in village Chak Chua, Bishnah, and a Swift Desire vehicle bearing registration number JK02DE-6002. The action was taken under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act of 1985, and the properties were identified as being illegally acquired through the proceeds of drug trafficking.

In a separate case, the Jammu Police attached a residential house valued in lakhs belonging to Shakeela, wife of late Ashok Kumar, a resident of Rajeev Nagar, Jammu. Shakeela is a notorious drug peddler involved in multiple NDPS cases registered at Police Station Bahu Fort, including FIR No. 267/2017 under Section 8/20, FIR No. 353/2021 under Sections 8/20/21/22, and FIR No. 110/2022 under Sections 8/20/27/29.

Last month, the Jammu Police had also frozen three more properties worth crores in the Rajeev Nagar, Ragoora, and Bagh-e-Bahu areas under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bahu Fort, further tightening the noose around drug traffickers. The J&K Police have urged the public to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighborhoods, assuring that strict legal action will be taken against those found indulging in such activities. This operation reaffirms the unwavering commitment of the J&K Police to combat the drug menace with full force, and local residents have lauded the initiative to attach immovable properties raised or used from illicit trafficking of narcotics by drug peddlers in the Jammu district.
