In a concerted effort to eradicate the drug menace from society, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Jammu District continued its drive under Operation SANJEEVENI on Friday. The operation targeted suspected drug hotspots, leading to significant seizures and arrests.
The police raided the Sikenderpur Kothy area of Police Station Bishnah, acting on information gathered during the investigation of a previous drug peddling case. The investigation revealed that two individuals, Liaqat Ali and Shokat Ali, sons of Hassan Mir from Sikanderpur Kothey, were allegedly involved in supplying narcotics to a previously arrested drug peddler, Navjot Singh.
After obtaining a search warrant from the Court, the police teams, led by SSP Jammu Dr. Vinod Kumar and other senior officers, conducted raids at the residences of the accused. Although Liaqat Ali and Shokat Ali managed to flee, the operation yielded significant recoveries, including eight motorcycles and scooties, one Alto car, narcotics, and a weighing machine. The recovered vehicles are suspected to be stolen property.
Additionally, Shubham Sharma, a resident of Paloura, Jammu, was arrested on the spot with a small quantity of narcotics. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bishnah in connection with these seizures.
The Jammu Police’s efforts extended beyond the Sikenderpur Kothy area, with raids conducted at various locations, including Asrarabad in Sidhra area, Rajpura Mandi, Pallanwala, and Gole Gujral Bh. Foot patrolling was also carried out in the Chitta hotspots of the PP canal area. In the Zone South of Jammu, the police, led by SP South Jammu, SDPO Gandhinagar, and all jurisdictional SHOs, IC PPs, and beat officers, conducted surprise patrolling and established checkpoints to seal entry and exit points at known hotspots in Rajiv Nagar and Gandhi Nagar. Two individuals were picked up for questioning from Rajiv Nagar, and one person from Valmiki Nagar.
