In a swift operation, the Jammu Police successfully apprehended a man accused of domestic violence who was attempting to flee the country to the UK within 24 hours of registering a case against him.
On March 26, 2024, Mrs. Dali Kumar, wife of Sushil Kumar, a resident of Hakkal, Jammu, filed a complaint against her husband alleging domestic violence. Acting promptly, the police initiated an inquiry, entrusting ASI Kulbir Kour of Police Post Chatha to record the statements of the victim and other witnesses.
Based on the recorded statements, sufficient evidence was found to register a case against Sushil Kumar under Sections 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 494 (marrying again during the lifetime of husband or wife), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. The case, FIR No. 56/2024, was registered at the Satwari Police Station.
Suspecting that the accused might attempt to flee the country, SSP Jammu issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Sushil Kumar, which was circulated to the Assistant Director, Bureau of Immigration, New Delhi, to facilitate his apprehension.
Within 24 hours of the case registration, on March 29, 2024, the accused was detained at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi while trying to flee the country. A team from the Satwari Police Station has been dispatched to take him into custody. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway. The swift action by the Jammu Police demonstrates their commitment to addressing domestic violence cases and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
