The district Jammu Police have recovered more than 400 grams stolen gold from three branches of private money lender, Muthoot Finance Ltd, situated in different parts of Jammu city, also arrested theif invloved in the crime.
“In a remarkable achievement, Jammu Police cracked a theft case and recovered 40 Tola (404.86 grams) of gold ornaments from a notorious thief involved in four cases”, SSP Jammu Dr Vinod Kumar said, addressing media at Janipur Police this evening.
“The police teams of Police Station Janipur, under the supervision of SP, North Kulbir Handa and led by SDPO West Vikram Singh and SHO Police Station Janipur Inspector Sikander Singh, worked tirelessly on the information regarding theft in the area under the jurisdiction of Police Station Janipur”, he told the pressers.
The SSP informed that the police teams collected CCTV footage, tracked the suspect’s movement, and identified his modus operandi. “The suspect was identified as Shubam resident of Gurah Qasim Nagar, Bakshinagar at present near Kali Mata Mandir, Shiv Nagar, Jammu. He was rounded up and interrogated by the police. He confessed his involvement in the theft cases and disclosed the locations where he had sold the stolen gold ornaments”, he added.
“The police teams recovered the stolen gold from three branches of Muthoot Finance Ltd. (Janipur, Bahu Plaza, and Shastri Nagar Jammu), one branch of Manappuram Finance Ltd (Sarwal), and one branch of Canara Bank (Janipur Jammu)”, the Jammu Police chief said.
“The stolen gold items were seized in four different cases in which the thief was involved, namely case FIR No. 34/2022 U/S 457/380/414 IPC and case FIR No.65/2023 u/s 454/380 IPC both registered at PS Janipur and two case FIR Nos. 144/2023 U/s 454/380 IPC and FIR No. 145/2023 registered at PS Bakshi Nagar”, he said and added that the thief was arrested and further investigation of the case was going on. It is pertinent to mention that out of the recovered gold items, 296 grams were seized in the above-mentioned cases and the rest of the items were seized u/s 102 Cr. PC.
Meanwhile, terming drug menace a major threat, Dr Vinod said, “Jammu Police is leaving no stone unturned to eradicate menace of drug, but it is not possible without the help of society.” “Police are arresting drug pedlars daily with drugs, but it is difficult to win the war without the full support of the public”, he said. Replying to a question regarding the involvement of some cops from the Kanachack Police Station to let free a drug pedlar in exchange for a bribe, he said an inquiry into the matter is going on if any cop is found guilty action as per rules will be initiated against him.
