In response to a query raised by MLA Javid Rayaz regarding the implementation of a new Higher Education Policy and the introduction of job-oriented and skill-based subjects in Degree Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir, the government clarified its stance in the assembly.
NEP-2020 Implemented Across All Government Degree Colleges
The government informed that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has already been implemented in all Government Degree Colleges across the Union Territory. “These colleges already offer job-oriented and skill-based courses to enhance students’ employability and practical learning,” the government stated, reaffirming its commitment to equipping students with industry-relevant skills.
Introduction of Business Management & Artificial Intelligence Courses
When questioned about the introduction of Management and Artificial Intelligence (AI) subjects in these institutions, the government provided further clarification: “Business Management programs are being offered in a good number of colleges across the UT. However, Artificial Intelligence as a separate program has not been introduced yet, as it remains a new and developing field. Nonetheless, AI is already being taught as part of the Computer Applications curriculum.”
