As Jammu and Kashmir prepares for its first popular government in over six years following the NC-Congress alliance’s majority win, leaders across the political spectrum have taken to X to share their perspectives.
From Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of cooperation to Chief Minister-designate Omar Abdullah’s promises of inclusive governance and National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s call for unity, here’s a look at the key statements shaping the discourse on J&K’s political future.
Following the election win, Dr. Abdullah emphasized the primary goals of the incoming administration, underscoring their commitment to “minimize differences between the two regions of the Union Territory and build confidence among the Hindus.”
Omar Abdullah, NC Vice President and former Chief Minister, has been vocal in post-election communications, highlighting the inclusive vision of the new government. “This administration will serve all, those who voted for BJP as much as those who voted for NC and Congress,” he tweeted, signaling a commitment to address the needs of all constituents.
In a surprising development, Omar Abdullah indicated a willingness to collaborate with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stating they were “ready to take PDP onboard.” However, he cautioned that the nomination of five MLAs, a process to be initiated by the Lt. Governor, could create tensions, highlighting the careful balance required for stable governance.
The victory has energized supporters, with the NC reporting that “thousands of people from all corners of J&K visited the residence of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah to congratulate them.” Adding a note of national significance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the NC on social media platform X, stating, “I would like to compliment JKNC for their commendable performance in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.”
In response, Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude and optimism for future collaboration, saying, “Thank you very much for your message of congratulations, @narendramodi sahib. We look forward to a constructive relationship in the true spirit of federalism so that the people of J&K may benefit from continued development and good governance.”
This exchange between regional and central leadership suggests a potential for improved Centre-State relations, critical for addressing Jammu and Kashmir’s unique challenges. As the new government prepares to take office, all eyes will be on how it navigates J&K’s complex political landscape, balances regional interests, and fulfills its promises of unity, development, and good governance in the weeks ahead.
