The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that around 4300 Kanals of land have been identified by the J&K Housing Board (JKHB) and the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) for the development of future satellite townships across the union territory.
Responding to a query raised by MLA Sham Lal Sharma regarding the government’s plans to develop housing colonies in Jammu, the government confirmed that plans are underway. It stated that land parcels have been identified, and the mode of execution is being finalized for the formulation of detailed project peports (DPRs).
When asked for district-wise details of the satellite townships to be established in the future, the government provided the following breakdown, that four colonies on proposed 800.35 Kanals of land in Kashmir, while five colonies on 500.93 Kanal of land proposed in Jammu region.
Including:-
Pulwama: Development of a Mass Housing Colony at Padgampura –30 Kanals.
Bandipora: Development of Integrated Mass Housing Colony at Watapora 200 Kanals.
Jammu: Development of flatted/plotted accommodation for EWS beneficiaries at Bhalwal 85 Kanals.
Kathua: Development of flatted/plotted accommodation at Changran (Phase-II) 41.48 Kanals.
Srinagar :Development of a Housing Colony at Chatterhama 353.35 Kanals. Ganderbal: Development of Housing Colony/flatted accommodation at Bakoora 214 Kanals. Jammu: Development of Housing Colony at Chak Bhalwal 248.65 Kanals. Jammu: Development of Housing Colony at Chowadhi 69 Kanals. Poonch: Development of Housing Colony at Kanuyian16.80 Kanals. Additionally, the government informed that the SDA has identified 3000 Kanals of state land along the National Highway Bypass at Bemina, Srinagar (Rakhi Gund Aksha), for potential development. The identification of these land parcels marks a significant step toward addressing the growing housing demands in Jammu and Kashmir, with further details on execution plans expected in the coming months.
