Director General R R Swain of the Jammu and Kashmir Police paid tribute to the unwavering dedication and sacrifices of the force during the Pakistan-sponsored proxy war spanning over three decades. In a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Jammu, DGP Swain disclosed that more than 1600 personnel have laid down their lives in the line of duty, symbolizing a poignant milestone in the region’s security landscape.
Emphasizing the profound commitment displayed by the J&K Police, DGP Swain acknowledged the multifaceted sacrifices endured by personnel, including injuries, displacement, and instances of vilification and intimidation. He expressed heartfelt concern for the families of officers who have borne the brunt of the conflict, facing attacks and tragedies due to their association with the police and their dedication to national security.
In a gesture to immortalize the legacy of those who have served in the fight against terrorism, DGP Swain underscored the imperative of documenting individual and collective narratives. He highlighted the valor and challenges confronted by Jammu and Kashmir Police members in their relentless efforts to combat terror.
Adding to the solemn occasion, DGP Swain proudly announced that the J&K Police has been honored with 72 gallantry medals by the President and Government of India, distinguishing it as the highest recipient among state police forces. He extended heartfelt congratulations to the recipients, lauding their exemplary courage and service to the nation.
Looking ahead to the Republic Day celebrations, DGP Swain assured the public of comprehensive security measures in place to guarantee safety and tranquility during the event. He revealed meticulous planning and coordination efforts involving various security agencies, including the army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) led by CRPF, and intelligence agencies, to address potential threat scenarios.
“We have spared no effort in securing the venue and mitigating potential risks. Citizens are urged to participate in the festivities with full enthusiasm, confident in the assurance of a peaceful and secure environment,” affirmed DGP Swain, instilling confidence in the authorities’ readiness to safeguard public safety during the national event.
