The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a driver of a Kashmir bound truck on Sunday and seized two hand grenades and a pistol.
The truck was intercepted near Purmandal Morh following the specific inputs regarding a weapon smuggling bid. The driver named Muntazir Manzoor of Pulwama told the police that the seized weapon and ammunition were dropped from across Pakistan border by drone and he was tasked to carry this consignment to Kashmir. SSP Chandan Kohli said that after receiving the inputs, a high alert was issued across Jammu and mobile vehicle checking nakas were put in place to catch hold of this smuggler. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have reactivated Village Defence Committees (VDC) to deal with the militancy threat in the Reasi district of Union territory. Among these 6000 VDC, 20 are women. “These are the group of highly committed people who are prepared for self and community defense against terrorists,” the officials said.
