Inaugurates Shinkun La Tunnel Project in Ladakh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today to paid homage to the fallen soldiers of Kargil War victory Drass, he also inaugurated infrastructural projects.

At the Shraddhanjali Samaroh in Ladakh, PM Modi led the nation in remembering the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil conflict. In his address, he emphasized the immortality of these sacrifices, stating, “Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us that the sacrifices made for the nation are immortal.” The Prime Minister recalled his personal experiences from the war days, expressing deep gratitude to the armed forces for their unwavering dedication and valor.

Modi’s speech touched upon the broader context of India’s security challenges, particularly referencing Pakistan’s role in promoting terrorism and proxy wars. He asserted, “Pakistan has not learnt anything from its past and has continued to wage war in the garb of terrorism and proxy wars to stay relevant.” However, he confidently declared that such nefarious intentions would be thwarted by India’s brave armed forces.

A significant portion of the Prime Minister’s address was dedicated to highlighting the developmental strides made in Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir. He pointed to the upcoming fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, citing examples of progress such as the hosting of G20 meetings, infrastructure development, and the revival of cultural activities in the region.

The event also saw the virtual inauguration of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project, a landmark infrastructure initiative aimed at providing year-round connectivity to Leh. This 4.1 km twin-tube tunnel, to be constructed at an altitude of approximately 15,800 feet, is set to become the world’s highest tunnel upon completion. Modi emphasized the project’s strategic importance, stating, “This tunnel will open doors of new possibilities for the development and better future of Ladakh.”

The Prime Minister used the platform to outline his government’s focus on defense reforms and modernization. He highlighted the increased budget allocation for Ladakh, rising from Rs 1100 crores to Rs 6000 crores in the last five years. Modi also touched upon initiatives like the Jal Jeevan Mission, the establishment of Sindhu Central University, and efforts to improve 4G connectivity in the region. In a significant portion of his speech, Modi addressed the controversial Agnipath scheme, defending it as a crucial reform to keep India’s armed forces young and battle-ready. He dismissed criticisms, stating, “The truth is that the Agnipath scheme will increase the strength of the country and the country will also get capable youth.”

The Prime Minister concluded by emphasizing that the Kargil victory belongs to the entire nation, transcending political boundaries. He saluted the brave soldiers and expressed his best wishes to all countrymen on the 25th anniversary of the Kargil victory. This commemoration, coupled with the launch of a major infrastructure project, reflects the government’s dual focus on honoring military sacrifices while pushing forward with strategic development initiatives in border regions. As India marks this significant milestone, the events in Ladakh serve as a reminder of the country’s resilience, progress, and ongoing commitment to national security and development.
