The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal today visited Potato seed multiplication farm Ismarg, Gurez. During the visit, the Director inspected different blocks of the farm where he was briefed by concerned officers about the latest initiatives and interventions that are being adopted at the farm.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture said that the agro-climatic conditions of this area are one of the best suited for the seed production and by taking advantage from such conducive environmental conditions we can pioneer the seed production sector.
He highlighted the importance of the quality seed for a successful cropping season and asked the concerned officers to adopt all real time technologies for a healthy virus free potato seeds. Director Agriculture said that departmental farms are focusing on the development and multiplication of high yielding varieties of agriculture crops (including Potato) appropriate production and protection technologies, Post- harvest management and production of good quality seed.
Director Agriculture also addressed a huge gathering of farmers under Kisan Sampark Abhiyan at Dawar Gurez. He marked the importance of various projects under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme and asked the farmers to work shoulder to shoulder with the department for the successful implementation of these projects. Later, the Director Agriculture visited the (under-construction) semi-hi tech polyhouse at Ismarg, Gurez and asked the concerned officers to complete the work in a set time frame. The Director was accompanied by Joint Director Agriculture Inputs, Mohammad Younis Chowdhury and other officers of the department.
