Kishtwar Police’s Cybercrime Unit Recovers Over Rs. 6 Lakh Lost to Online Scams

The Cybercrime Investigation Unit of District Police Kishtwar has achieved a significant victory in its efforts to combat cybercrime in the region. The unit has successfully recovered Rs. 6,06,000 defrauded through various online scams, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the public from cyber fraudsters.

The recovery comes in the wake of multiple complaints received by the district police regarding various online frauds, including mobile recharge scams, third-party mobile app installations, and malicious Telegram links promoting Dream 11 teams. The victims collectively reported losses amounting to Rs. 6,06,000 due to these nefarious activities. Upon receiving the complaints, the Cybercrime Investigation Unit swiftly initiated a detailed investigation. Utilizing advanced technical skills and relentless efforts, the team successfully recovered the entire amount of Rs. 6,06,000 that had been defrauded from the victims. The investigation into these online scams is ongoing, with the unit currently pursuing promising leads to recover any remaining defrauded funds. Since its establishment, the Cybercrime Investigation Unit in Kishtwar has addressed numerous reports of online scams and has successfully recovered a total of Rs. 14,86,906 to date.

District Police Kishtwar has advised the public to remain vigilant against online fraud and exercise caution when engaging with online activities. They emphasize the importance of avoiding suspicious links, refraining from installing unauthorized apps, and being cautious with personal information online. Any suspicious activities should be reported immediately to the National Cybercrime Helpline Number 1930, the Cybercrime Investigation Unit Kishtwar at 9103416100, or PCR Kishtwar at 9906154100 / 9103454100. Complaints can also be lodged online at www.cybercrime.gov.in and www.ceir.gov.in for lost or stolen mobile phones.

The successful recovery of defrauded funds by the Cybercrime Investigation Unit in Kishtwar highlights the district police’s commitment to ensuring cybersecurity and upholding the rule of law in the digital realm.
