In a significant development aimed at promoting inclusivity and fostering innovation in education, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the new Girls Hostel at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar today.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Director NIT; Vidhi Kumar Birdi, IGP Kashmir; and Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, along with faculty members of NIT Srinagar.

During his address, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha extended his congratulations to the management, faculty, and students of NIT Srinagar, highlighting the importance of the newly inaugurated facility in promoting education, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. “The facility is dedicated to our daughters who are breaking the barriers in STEM education and ready to shape the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem,” he remarked, emphasizing the crucial role of women in driving progress and innovation.

Furthermore, Lt Governor Sinha underscored the need for developing a specialized workforce capable of addressing industry demands and local challenges. “The biggest responsibility of institutions like NIT today is to create a new generation of innovators,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of an innovation-driven economy to strengthen the country’s innovation ecosystem.

Lt Governor Sinha urged faculty members to create a conducive environment for future-oriented capacity building of students and emphasized the importance of strengthening synergy between educational institutions and industries. He also highlighted the imperative of increased participation of women in STEM courses, reflecting on the transformative changes occurring in the educational landscape under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. “The state-of-the-art hostel inaugurated today marks a significant step towards providing residential facilities to girl students on the campus,” Lt Governor Sinha noted, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and facilitating access to quality education for all.

The inauguration of the new girls hostel at NIT Srinagar signifies a significant milestone in the journey towards promoting inclusivity and excellence in education. With a focus on innovation, capacity building, and gender empowerment, the initiative is poised to contribute significantly to the advancement of the education sector and the overall development of the region.
