Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the 23rd All India Police Water Sports Championship 2023-24 (Men & Women) in Srinagar, marking the commencement of an event that promises to be both competitive and memorable.
In his inaugural address, Lt. Governor Sinha extended his warmest wishes to all participants, organizers, and sports enthusiasts, expressing his optimism for a successful championship. He commended the J&K Police for hosting the prestigious tournament and emphasized its significant role in promoting sports and fostering the holistic development of youth.
Highlighting the commendable efforts of the J&K Police, Lt. Governor Sinha noted their remarkable track record of organizing 17 prestigious All India Police Championships over the past two decades. He emphasized the importance of sports, particularly water sports, in instilling values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience – qualities that resonate with the principles upheld by law enforcement agencies in safeguarding communities.
“I am confident that the visiting players and team members will enjoy the warm hospitality and magnificent sights of Jammu Kashmir and return as brand ambassadors of the UT,” remarked the Lt. Governor, underscoring the potential of the championship to showcase the beauty and hospitality of Jammu Kashmir.
During the ceremony, Lt. Governor Sinha paid homage to the brave hearts of the Police and security forces for their selfless service to the nation, acknowledging their sacrifices and dedication. The championship, featuring a total of 30 teams comprising approximately 500 players and 60 technical officials and team managers, promises thrilling competition and camaraderie.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of notable dignitaries including RR Swain, DGP; Vijay Kumar, ADGP, Armed, Law & Order; Aftab Malik, Chairman, District Development Council Srinagar, along with senior officials of Police, Security Forces, UT administration, eminent sportspersons, and enthusiasts. As the championship unfolds, anticipation is high for a showcase of skill, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among participants, further cementing the spirit of unity and excellence in sports within the region.
