In a tragic incident on Monday, at least four Indian Army personnel lost their lives when terrorists ambushed their vehicle in the remote Machedi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district.
The attack occurred around 3:30 PM near Badnota village on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road, approximately 150 kilometers from Kathua town.
According to sources, the terrorists hurled grenade and opened firing on Army vehicles conducting a routine patrol. Security forces promptly retaliated, but the assailants managed to escape into the nearby forest. Reports indicate that intermittent gunfire exchanges continued between the terrorists and security personnel.
Authorities have dispatched reinforcements to the area in an effort to neutralize the terrorists, who are believed to have recently infiltrated from across the border and were potentially en route to higher elevations.
An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “The four troopers who were injured in the grenade attack and subsequent firing by the terrorists have succumbed to their injuries.” The wounded personnel were initially transported to a military hospital for treatment, where they succumbed.
This attack follows recent successful operations by security forces in the Kashmir Valley. In Kulgam district, six terrorists were eliminated in dual encounters. Notably, four of these militants were discovered hiding in a concealed bunker inside a cupboard in the Chinigam Frisal area. The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region and the sacrifices made by Indian armed forces in their efforts to maintain peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. As the situation develops, security agencies are expected to intensify their operations to track down the perpetrators of this latest attack and prevent further incursions across the border.
