Member of Parliament and Senior BJP Leader, Er. Gulam Ali Khatana, has called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to extend the coverage of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Rooftop Solar Yojana (RSY) to remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Khatana emphasized the importance of bringing these crucial welfare schemes to all citizens of the Union Territory, regardless of geographical challenges.
The JJM aims to provide safe drinking water through household tap connections, while the RSY, also known as PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, seeks to offer 300 units of free electricity monthly to one crore households through rooftop solar panels. Both schemes, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have significantly improved the quality of life for many J&K residents.
However, Khatana highlighted that several remote areas remain uncovered, including Gulabgarh in Reasi district, Marwah Sub Division of Kishtwar district, and parts of Ramban, Doda, Rajouri, and Poonch districts. The MP reported receiving numerous deputations from these regions, with residents expressing their long wait for these basic amenities.
While commending Lt. Governor Sinha’s public outreach program, Khatana stressed the need for immediate attention to areas still lacking potable water and electricity. He expressed hope that the administration would achieve 100% coverage, aligning with the central government’s vision of inclusive development.
As J&K strives for full integration with the rest of India, the successful implementation of these schemes could play a crucial role in improving living standards and fostering inclusion among residents of remote areas.
