GDC Kalakote hosted a number of activities at the college premises as part of the Celebration of Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas) under the theme “My Constitution My Pride” under the patronage of the Principal, Dr. Seema Arora.
The activities started with effect from 6th November and progressed till 26th of November. During this 20-day celebration programme, multiple activities were conducted. The event commenced with the essay writing competition on the 8th of November on two different themes i.e. “Women’s Rights” and “India’s Freedom Movement” by the department of Political Science under the supervision of Dr Gulshan Bassan and Dr Farooq. In the Competition, Ms. Komal of the 5th Semester, Mr. Mohd. Rafi of the 3rd Semester and Ms. Pooja Devi of the 1st semester attained 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Further, on the same day, an awareness programme on POCSO and Child rights was also held at the college premises. This programme was conducted by the Department of Sociology. During the programme lectures on the said topics were delivered by Prof. Zahra Kazmi and Prof. Hilal Ahmed Rehshi. On the 9th of November, a Rangoli Competition was conducted by NSS on the theme “Swachh Diwali Shub Diwali”. On the same day an awareness programme on “Fundamental Rights” and “Fundamental Duties” was organized by the Department of Political Science. During the programme, the students were apprised of the nature and importance of Fundamental Rights and Duties. On the 10th of November a Signature campaign on the theme “Swachh Diwali Shub Diwali” was also conducted by the NSS committee. On the 18th of November college election under the theme “Exercise Your Right and Responsibility” was held under the guidance of Principal GDC Kalakote Dr. Seema Arora. Further on the 17th of November a Movie on the “Life of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar” was showcased to the students to aware them of the journey of B. R. Ambedkar’s life and his contribution to the drafting of the Indian Constitution. The next activity was held by the Department of Environmental Sciences on the 20th of November where a lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor (EvS) Prof. Khalida Praveeen on “Environmental Laws”. A lecture under the awareness programme on “Women’s Rights” was delivered by Prof. Priyanka Choudhry Head of the Department of Hindi. On the same day a quiz competition on the theme “How Much We Know Our Constitution” was also conducted by the Department of Political Science. Another quiz competition on “Voting Rights” was conducted on the 25th of November by the Department of Political Science. Finally, on Sunday, reading the Preamble in different languages was done by the NSS volunteers.
